I certainly didn’t appreciate the sentiments that she expressed in her original essays (mostly the bits about how, with regard to professors refraining from making “unwanted advances,” are you to know they are unwanted unless you try?). But it definitely isn’t grounds to claim that as a result, the campus atmosphere

So happy to read this! I honestly loved her first essay, and I can’t wait to read the most recent one (behind the chronicle’s pay wall right now). There are so few feminists out there arguing that young women should be empowered to make mistakes without seeing them as trauma, and I think Kipnis was incredibly

See I’m completely sympathetic to her not wanting to talk directly to him about it cause that could be insanely uncomfortable. But then the answer is talk to someone else about it, unless the department is so hostile that there’s no one to talk to about this and then she has bigger problems anyway.

Oh, I see. I guess I was thinking mainly of toxoplasmosis’ affect on a fetus- it does look like it’s only the initial infection that’s dangerous in that case.

Man, I feel bad for the postdoc. How is the advice not: well if he’s a nice guy maybe he doesn’t realize he’s making you feel uncomfortable and you should just talk to him. If you feel uncomfortable talking to him, is there a senior student in the lab who you feel could and would intercede on your behalf? Is there

It actually seems to be incredibly photoshop free (or at least light). You can actually see veins, muscles, wrinkles - she looks incredible, but she’s not been buffed to a smooth finish like most cover images.

The “glistening” you’re talking about is probably an effect of the reflective background creating highlights

THAT’S HOW IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE SPELLED, WITH A “C”. The “Y” is the problem.

That's actually closer to the original Irish spelling than any version with a K.

What you doing in here, Kris? Don’t you have some momaging to do?

Yes, I remember her advocating for real, factual sexual education in schools, not just abstinence-only sex ed. She says it would have helped her.

I’m the same age as Elizabeth and her story, since she was missing to when she was found and beyond, has always stayed with me. Primarily how she schooled Nancy Grace during an interview, and how she talked about how her school and church’s teachings of purity negatively impacted her after she returned home.

You’re right. You seem like a caring dude. When you bring home flowers, pour her a glass of wine and say, “Why don’t you sit down while I put these in a vase for you?” That would be well received, trust me.

I had never seen “Friends” until I started watching it my Netflix queue.

on yik yak there was a huge debate about the word “feminist.” guys and girls wanted a new word for it even those who claimed they were feminists. because the word has “fem” in it, they feel it’s one-sided. there was someone who said they were a girl and just shit all over feminists. “she” got so many upvotes. i hate

aha I am thinking it is Dominic ;)

Reminds me of Merrill Markoe’s bit about why we shouldn’t look to supermodels and actresses for beauty tips—what advice can they really offer besides, “Next time you’re born, try to have better looking parents”?

“She’s adorable!” xdaniellehbinghamx wrote. “Screw the people seeing something ‘sexual’ about a 3year old. Eww. They need mental help and a hard slap in the face.”

I don’t understand the question.

I’ve only been to TIFF once. My friend -really- wanted to go to this one movie, and bought us premier tickets. We decided since it was a premier, we’d dress up. To the nines. I actually got my hair did, he wore a suit, I had on “the little black dress.” We looked -good-. And I guess we looked like we were some bodies,

In high school I got my own phone line (technically it was for me and my sister, but she never used it). I started getting all these calls from telemarketers speaking Spanish (I’m guessing due to whoever had that number before), and telling them I didn’t speak Spanish in either Spanish or English never helped. I was
