The erasure of mothers, and in particular poorer mothers, is such an issue. It’s one of the ways the feminist movement makes it abundantly clear that the needs of upper-class white women are paramount, while everyone else needs to take a backseat.

I used to comment regularly on Jezebel for years (under a different name) and stopped because of the feeling the author describes when someone she assumed would be an ally made her feel unwelcome.

“Indians love me. I’m going to be so good for the Indians.”

Columbus sailed the ocean blue

Yeeeah, people are trying to justify the quote (which is from Emmeline Pankhurst, Streep’s character in the film) by saying she wasn’t talking about THAT kind of slavery, but the slavery of being unable to vote. But the issue here is obviously that she thought her plight as a white woman that wasn’t allowed to vote

The complaint there was not with the word “rebel,” it was with “slave.” Gender oppression is not the same as racial oppression, and it’s not okay to claim the suffering of another group as a way to bolster one’s own cause, PARTICULARLY when the context is promo for a movie about a bunch of women who were often

BOOM. THIS.

Cold Stone waffle cup. (Same logo.) Those things are heart attacks in cups but oh, so, yummy.

Cannot believe some of the comments down thread still trying to tear these young women down because they didn’t devote the proper attention to the holy rite of baseball/aren’t even ‘saving the world’.

Waiting for the comments calling these women stupid/selfish/just looking for fame/etc. It would be perfectly in keeping with the cunty attitude by commenters lately.

Me inside after reading this post:

These ladies are class acts. And I think it is so bad ass how they subtlety and productively proved everyone wrong. (Including myself)

Bottom row, far right. That’s me in most social situations.

Christ, the trolls are out in force on this one. Considering the top comment, and all the people responding to it and similar trolling attempts, I think I’ll nope the fuck out of these threads.

How sad is it that we need white testimony before most people will believe that the women were victims of discrimination? How sad is it that most of the comments here are doubting their very perception of the reality that racial discrimination is built into every institution of society? How sad is it that some schmo

Several white passengers back up the black women’s stories and saying that there were rude, obnoxious white people but they weren’t kicked off the train.

Ok. So fuck all the people who are going to say, “But we dont really know what happened! They could have actually been harassing the other guests! Let’s not pass judgement because we were really there...”

However, that does not mean that that a dysfunctional, enmeshed relationship was not also part of the picture. From a clinical standpoint, violence and filicide is viewed as a means for the child of such a relationship to separate psychologically and establish a separate identity- something that seems impossible as

My mom threatened to kill herself when I cut her out. I can relate to the difficulty of dealing with people who are mentally unwell who also happen to be your parent. It’s an absolute nightmare.
