Jesus Christ, can none of you people frame your argument in a way that doesn't throw disabled people under the bus?

Now that you mention it, as a marginalized person, I'm going to call you and other people out who are casually throwing around ableist terms such as "lunatic" (yours) and "psycho" (not yours). These are pejorative terms that perpetuate stigma and discrimination against people with mental illness and disability.
What a day for hate-tweets :-/
On Facebook and Twitter? Hell, it's also what a lot of people are saying here and all over the rest of the Gawkerverse.
Yeah, because everyone knows that smoking weed makes teenagers extremely dangerous and imbues them with super killing powers that only bullets can stop.
I didn't take it personally at all. Well, besides the reasonable guilt that this stupid case is generally making me feel because we white people, we are the oppressors who allowed a boy to be murdered and his killer walk free. Yes, we inherited it, but so what? As a white person this is a system that favors you and…
Yes, I hope so too. I am glad that you mention this contradiction, because I was thinking the same thing which led me to dig for the link to that post. I also hope that some people who have had these knee-jerk reactions will come to different conclusions after they have had time to reflect. I guess where my privilege…
Just going to leave this here, in case anyone is interested.
Some of us women were picked on in childhood as well, but people grow up and change. I see this a lot where guys don't realize that and confuse us with the people who picked on them. I think that's where a lot of the "fake geek girl" accusations come from.
I'm also going to argue that a lot of men would like to see a better representation of women in Doctor Who as well, and it is unlikely that will happen if no women are directing. In fact, Neil Gaiman opened the door to the possibility of the doctor regenerating as a woman in The Doctor's Wife, and John Scalzi likes…
I have a thrift store suit that I had tailored, and a men's frock coat, and I love them. I sometimes wear them with an underbust corset over a formal shirt.
This. This exactly. Thank you so much. I was trying to craft a reply to Nick Denton's about the demographic, but didn't have the data to back it up, only personal observation, experiences, and my sense the numbers I always read about are not at all an accurate representation of women in geekdom. And I'm tired of being…
I'm not sure why it's like that either. IRL it's gotten a lot better over time, but online I still feel pushed out of those spaces. I imagine it's the same people who pushed me out of D&D and MtG when I was in high school (I liked VtM a lot and people were more inclusive, I think because for some reason gothy nerds…
Yes, you are OBVIOUS. Now run along, or try harder.
I would include lifehacker as well. Geeks also drive lifehacker. I can't even imagine what the gawkerverse would look like without us.
Sure, if you don't mind having your cervix battered.
This is why I don't feel welcome in the community, these types of comments: http://kotaku.com/a-game-creator…
Those comments are...disturbing. I saw the post on a kotaku for everyone, and I have actually noticed when I have wandered over there that the comments aren't as stunningly abusive as they used to be, which, well done, but they are still really awful, especially when issues around gender, race, orientation, and the…
This makes no sense to me. Not only is your character interacting in the dialogue, but you have several options for what your character is going to say at any given time. If you mean you can't be invested if your character doesn't interact OUT LOUD, I still don't get it. You are engaged in dialogue on this thread…
