Thank you for this, “I assure you that your subscribers have all the black eyeliner they need and beseech you to stop including it in boxes. “

I am so sorry about your FIL. I also am reveling in this week’s BCO.

*hugs*

BCO got me through some horrible homesickness over the last year. Well, BCO and Nutella.

I’m sorry to hear about your loss—I had actually been wondering why I hadn’t seen you commenting as much lately. I’m glad BCO helped, at least in some small way. I hope you guys have whatever you need to make what you’re going through less awful.

You clearly have no idea how shifts work at cheapass restaurants. Here is how my job works:

I'm pretty sure this is a great comment, but let me sleep on it.

Hi Colin, I just wanted to thank you for BCO. My father-in-law passed away last Monday morning, and I spent all week making phone calls, driving people around, making arrangements, serving people, and sleeping on my living room floor. It was the week from hell. A few times each day, though, I was able to sneak away

I would do anything for meatloaf, but I won’t do that.

How these stories make me feel:

working these jobs by choice is like picking up a rattlesnake. You knew what it was when you picked it up, so don’t bitch when it bites you.

Right? If I have a long wait (especially if I was informed ahead of time, or I can see just how crazy busy the place is) I usually tip MORE because I figure that the server is going to get stiffed by other assholes who blame them for the wait. I’m trying to at least help make up the difference.
I also do that if I’m

Pay restaurant workers a living wage and I will happily agree with abolishing the tipping system. It’s institutionalized begging.

Do these people think that’s a teaching moment? Like “oh, I’ll show you, server person, with this super unnecessary comment on the check”? Because all it teaches me, folks, is that the world would be better off if you were eaten by dragons.

Dear fellow readers of Kitchenette:

Food, and shelter are pretty high up on the list of things “in this world that you need so badly to have to put up with this treatment from people”

Salad for lunch today.
