I've definitely noticed mileage differences with different branded gas: Esso vs. Petro-Canada vs. Shell (I haven't tried no-name gas). In my experience Esso gives me the highest mileage. @davepermen: For some reason ABP doesn't work properly for me on Chrome. The last time I tried was 3 weeks ago until FF4 came out. I only use FF4 now - even though it's a little slower but all the ads get zapped cleanly. ABP's Chrome extension still needs some work IMO.

At first it's just a bit of abstraction (like the rounded off square) but when their products evolve they might still keep the same logo, or parts of it, for product recognition.
