He actually wasn’t. There was no fleshed out characters in the game before TTK. Only after that we started to have dialogues and some humor, vanilla Destiny had different Cayde-6 than nowadays.

He’s the ONLY character that isn’t 1 dimentional. Naturally they would open with him, as it is only character that they created with some thought. The rest has no depth, or isn’t even interesting.
