My brother got a pretty mint Acclaim from Grandma as his fist car. Got it around 2002, it was a 1990ish with around 40k miles. Served him well as a first car. He later sold it to his girlfriend at the time who totalled it after about three months. Waste of a good Grandma mobile

They did, I had one. The supercharged SRT6 was automatic only. Not sure on finding one cheaper than the SLK featured in the article though, a lot of people sat on crossfires and never drove them so there are a ton around with low miles and high asking prices. 

I did a trip in a mid seat in a Caravan earlier this year and they were not comfortable. Agreed with the handling, the Honda wears its weight well and its pretty enjoyable to drive, especially compared to the older vans or an SUV
