Yes, they did what they had to, but the show is still suffering slightly from the bizarre decision to not tie up book 1 events in season 1. But what is done is done.

I got the impression that his ship was out in the solar system a bit. Near Jupiter perhaps.

If you like Simmons Hyperion Cantos and The Expanse, other Sf/space opera you should read:
- Dan Simmon's "Ilium" and "Olympus"
- Scalzi's "Old Mans War" series (3 books plus short stories)
- Peter F Hamilton's "Commonwealth" saga
- Alastair Reynolds' "House of Suns" (a single novel)
- Ann Leckie's "Ancillary Justice"

Earth, Mars, & Belter ships can all push ~10Gs for short time during emergencies. It all depends on how good your endurance is sitting in a high-G couch.
