There were some incredible shots (like in the art here) and a couple nice animated sequences. Overall though, the rotoscoping and weird facial animations were too distracting to ignore.

haha, and she says it all the time!

Crimeny!

I think 8-4 has done some really good work too. While I was disappointed at the lack of Japanese voices in Xenoblade X, the translation and dub was actually pretty decent (despite some odd renaming choices).

I think I just glossed over a lot of the weird lines as I’m so used to japanese games and anime translations having them. I think my favorite would be “My name is Audrey, but you can call me Audrey.”

To be fair, jrpg collectors’ editions are as robust as ever. Hell, most Atlus and Nippon Ichi games almost always come with an art booklet and soundtrack (sampler). Though they’ve got nothing on the playstation games Working Designs was releasing back in the day...

That bug testing thing at the end there is so smart. Why type out a note in our engine when it can be displayed directly in game!

I am shocked that someone would recommend Bubblegum Crisis to someone that is trying to give anime a shot. You sum up why that was a bad idea pretty nicely.

I remember the Sonic 3 manual had a line about how Dr. Robotnik has placed hidden traps in some levels where you’ll get stuck and have to wait for a time over or reset the game to get out. What a fiendish bastard.

Good list! I would have added the Soul Calibur series under fighting as it’s super accessible and you get to play with cool weapons without all the blood. I also loved shmups as a kid (still do), but I’m not sure how much they would hold up for today’s youngins.

I’m sorry but this hypothetical sequel of yours changes too much of the original and I doubt it would ever catch on.

While the bland art direction and presentation of MVCI wasn’t enough to keep me from playing, I think the “Clash” style characters of this one will. 90's capcom had some of the greatest art of its time, and this is just...a real bummer.

I mostly agree, though the idea that Kirby Superstar is somehow worse than Kirby’s Adventure is a bit baffling. It’s actually my favorite platformer (even though Mario World is objectively better).

I wonder if Konami is looking to push their online mode by allowing MGSV to be free. Maybe it’s to get people excited for that zombie thing they have coming out next year? Either way, more people get to play this game which is pretty sweet.

No Cigar was easily my favorite at the time and it introduced me to Millencollin in general. Personally I think THPS 1 and 3 had better soundtracks overall, but that’s coming from a big punk rock fan.

My niece (age 4) is in awe of my arcade stick every time she comes over. She likes moving the stick around and mashing the buttons even when it’s not plugged in. Buttons are here to stay.

What the hell, why can’t you take them out? How are you supposed to eat them?

Is it weird to love a mobile game company? Cygames keeps funding awesome stuff that I can’t help but want to give them money.

Hmm, I felt like her clothes were more red than pink. Though I didn’t actually notice that the teal X matched.

I feel like they had leftover pink parts from the Splatoon controller so they threw it on this one. It looks cool but it would have been nice to have a monado red or something. But yeah, no real reason to have an extra controller when other people actually own their own. :)
