@Unholy_Hero: Quite honestly, from a student's as well as a lecturer's point of view, I don't see the added value of firing up Pages for note taking.

Telemedicine can't become more mainstream quickly enough...

@Sandeep Murali: Slightly unrelated, but I've found that using compartmentalised backpacks (Tatonka Bike&Hike is the one I use) seem perfect for the job. I understand that you don't always want to lug around a "full-sized" backpack, but on longer trips I think it's worth it. Besides, a backpack usually also gives you

$120 isn't cheap as chips.

I still find the only useful app out of the three is Keynote, and even that one has shortcomings:

With Western societies becoming older and older in terms of demographics... I present to you: Soylent Green (it's not people, I promise)!

To tell the truth, I'd be more than just a little afraid of someone either jumping on my poor iPad or trying to eat it in order to grow bigger (or shoot balls of fire). I'll stick with my boring but safe, black Tuch leather case...

Otaku marrying the model-in-the-phone in 3..., 2..., 1...

It has the same problem that DVD players had while the PS2 was hot bread: Who pays for this when you can get a PS3 with shitloads of added functionality?

Touchphone, meet keyboard. This is your somewhat older, estranged uncle who used to be a huge success. Lately, though, he's dropped out of the spotlight after all you cool kids with your inbred functionality showed up and made him feel useless.

@gizgizgiz: I suppose it would be useful, but I find the idea antiquated. I've actually noticed I hardly, if ever, use the arrow keys on the bluetooth keyboard when paired with the iPad.

@ThePriceofEggsinMalta: I tried a lot of these apps as well, and I found that for my use of the iPad, Simple Note fits the bill (and it's free to boot).

@Hvedhrungr: Also, +1 on Epicurious. My mother fell in love with it the first time she looked at my iPad. I suppose I'll have to buy one for her this Christmas...

Cooking should be fun. Cooking should be learned by trial and error. Once you've gotten past that part (and burned out a pot by boiling water, it's like a mark of passage for some), these apps are definitely nice.

@yourcitylovesyou: I used to use Pyroom on my netbook (Kuki Linux) a lot. In theory, it's Writeroom written in python. In practical terms, it's a little like a castrated Emacs. Works just splendidly.

@gizgizgiz: You realise you can just press the touchscreen for a little longer to use the magnifying glass and move the cursor in the exact same way you can use cursor arrows, right?

@Ollie: I love Writeroom on my Macs. I went ahead and downloaded the app on my iPod touch, but after using it twice I realised its just infinitely easier and more sensible to use Simple Note on a mobile device. Synching is done automatically, and I can just c&p from Notational Velocity straight into Pages.

@blash: And the brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ding of manually resetting it.

@Arken: Admittedly, however, Pages is a bag of sad puppies on the iPad. I love using it on my Macs, but the app version just lacks function and comfort on so many levels...
