It may be just because I am old, but this phrase brings to mind the Mercury Turnpike Cruiser of 1957-1958, especially the hot rod (Super Marauder?) version with a huge V-8 and three deuces.

“Do you remember [Niki] Lauda at Fuji in ‘76? He was the only one of the drivers to give up racing in the rain. Today, every driver thinks as Lauda did then.”

Sloppy Joes. I entered high school over 60 years ago and we did not have many choices in most school cafeterias back then.

I used a nonbattery electric mower, edger, string trimmer, blower, etc., until I celebrated my 70th birthday by hiring someone else to mow my lawn. For those of us with small lawns, it may be actually easier than a gas mower. I can have half my lawn mowed in the time it takes to drive to a gas station and refill a

I agree that a real dirt track would be better.

“April 17: Bristol dirt”

While I have never thought that Valtteri Bottas is the best F1 driver in the field, I do think that he is the most underrated. Winning nine races in five seasons is an impressive performance for a team’s second driver under any circumstance.

“’When I was a kid in the ’80s, these seemed so old and ’70s,’ says Allison Robicelli.”

You are doing it again, Jason! Inserting facts into a discussion instead of unsubstantiated social media gossip.

Both my Mom and my ex-wife used to save bacon grease in the refrigerator and use it in a variety of ways. I am sure that had nothing to do with my coronary artery disease.

“This has been a weird one, with a small company claiming corruption, or, uh, unfair dealing on a big government contract that went to an existing large government contractor. That kind of thing never happens in America!”

Those NSUs were reported to be amazing machines, but the real wildness was when they put a similar engine in the Munch Mammoth motorcycle. One article said that the 1200cc version was so powerful that it would break spokes in the rear wheel, requiring use of a cast magnesium rear wheel.

I am impressed when I see a firefighter back a fire engine into its tight quarters from a narrow street in my neighborhood. They make it look easy.

“I don’t know if there’s any algorithm in Tesla’s FSD stack that has some sort of IF-THEN conditional that takes into account IF nighttime AND IF no traffic AND IF stop sign THEN roll through at low speed, but if that did exist, I don’t think I’d necessarily think that would be a problem.”

How do its external dimensions, height, width, length, and weight  compare with its full size competitors?

I had a 1984 passenger versions of this car and it did a good job of hauling my family of five, but it did not handle as well as the Vanagon it replaced. When my 1975 BMW R60/6 motorcycle had a severe mechanical problem, I was able to roll it up a ramp into the van and take it to a mechanic.

When I was trick or treating in the 1950s, homemade popcorn balls and candy apples were considered prime treats. My mother and a few of my friends’ mothers would make popcorn balls and save them for kids they knew. The candy apples were not very common, but I did get a few popcorn balls over the years.

Is this car easy to get into and out of for those of us who are less agile than we used to be?

“...(H)orrible inner city highway traffic at rush hour, which comes early to D.C., even in summer...”

I am not a big fan of extending tax credits for buying electric vehicles. There has to be a limit on how long these are paid out of the public purse. There are so many pressing needs for our various governments to fulfill, that this, IMHO, doesn’t make the cut.
