It’s a brilliant little bit of taking the piss.

man I love studios with a good sense of humor.
Yeah. I never got the sense that Gertsmann’s contrarianism came from being an asshole. Dude is hella knowledgeable about video games, and has been in the industry since the 90s.
At some point, you’ve seen everything and hype just isn’t enough anymore.
When nextlander started up someone on Twitter suggested one day Jeff would join them and Jeff liked that tweet. The moment I saw that I knew this was coming.
And a nice podcast, part of me is hoping Jeff joins them because as a unit I freaking love their podcasts.
I mean who wouldn’t be cynical like he is when you’ve been in the industry for as long as he did? And been burned by it?
That’s cause it’s not a site, it’s a Twitch channel. And potentially a Patreon retirement fund for your fave gaming grampas.
Good header choice
“As games coverage changed” really just makes me think of his Halo Infinite review. It was as much a review of the game Halo Infinite as it was Jeff musing on what the purpose of game reviews were in this day and age. Interesting read, honestly.
If Kotaku can zombie on indefinitely after losing pretty much everyone, giantbomb will probably do the same.
He made it clear he was mostly sticking around due to the personal investment in the site over the years and hoping to shepherd it into new areas as games coverage changed, but that may have just become untenable. He just had his second kid and kids change everything. Nothing resets your priorities like a new tiny…
I like how they made sure to say this isn’t GB 2.0, but if it’s a reference to NXT 2.0, it’s exactly that. Gerstmann is like the Adam Cole of GB.
Does anyone else feel like was sort of inevitable after Brad, Vinny, and Alex left?
Is there a new Kane and Lynch coming out?
In a world where your employees are stuck at their jobs because there isn’t anywhere else they can go, this sort of bullshit works fine.
Yeah Musk’s problem is some pretty classic believing your own hype. He got told he was the smartest guy in the room enough times that he decided he actually was, and now, even though it’s become extremely obvious across the entire corporate sector, from law, to finance, to manufacturing, that forcing people to come in…
Yeah...it sucks that the only way to tell them I dislike something is to have to click on it to tell them I dislike it, thereby giving them the sweet engagement the higher-ups crave, but it’s kinda my only outlet, ya know?
Musk, still the richest person in the world despite Tesla stock being down over 30% year-to-date, wrote in a follow-up email, “There are of course companies that don’t require this, but when was the last time they shipped a great new product? It’s been a while.”
Tesla is about to have a massive brain drain. Musk just put an enormous target on all of his employees who don’t want to go back to the office to be subject to what’ll end up being a pretty easy recruitment drive.
I am so much more productive and happier since working from home. It’s so great
