I think it comes down to where you were raised - I grew up in a small rural-ish town where most people knew each other at least by sight, the kind of place where people don’t lock their doors and kids roamed freely. So these kinds of parenting decision that raise eyebrows now were basically the norm. Never knew anyone

Worthy of note: it was during one of those times that my mom regularly left me in the car for short errands that I first climbed into the driver’s seat, grasped the massive old Volvo steering wheel and stick shift and got that jolt of “holy shit, I bet driving is AWESOME” for the first time.

Whatever anecdotal evidence you have to support your opinion is just as valid/invalid as the anecdotal evidence people (myself included) have to support the idea that there are far greater risks than leaving your kid in the car when you run into the bank for five minutes.
