You know how there are some automotive events that you're aware of, you understand why people love them, you may even look at photo galleries of them, but you've never actually taken the time to watch them yourself? The difference is those controversies are endlessly picked apart afterwards and often result in public shaming and/or fines for the players/officials involved - you can debate the efficacy of that dynamic, but at least we don't shrug our collective shoulders and say "oh well, part of the game."
