Even home movies can get hit with a copyright claim. Say for example if I were to make a home movie of my grandmother’s memorial church service and upload it as unlisted some dick might get it flagged by the youtube robots because of a couple of the songs sung during the service that are at least 50 years old.

False equivalence. Millions of videos are uploaded on YT everyday, except only a small percentage of them will include footage of copyrighted material. This includes lets-plays, reviews, lyric videos, and yes, outright piracy. Of these types of accounts, nearly all of them will be hit at least once - the ones with a

I just want to blame Nintendo for everything because it’s easier and their track record as of late is a joke.

Except that analogy doesn’t work at all.

Considering the original video wasn’t technically “theirs” in the first place, any check cut would be to Konami (ya know, the company that actually published the game in question).

I disagree, but still laughed.

There are penalties for false DMCA takedowns (at least in the law, theoretically, it could happen).

You only get a strike if it’s unresolved. Fox removing the copyright claim removes the strike.

Actually the system is only partially automated. The System actually “flags” videos for inspection - and a user looks through the video and approves a take down.

Probably not likely, it seems like their flagging system is just automated and based on video and audio queues rather than someone actually watching each video and deciding.

Thing is though, given how abysmally the whole copyright thing on YouTube works, I’m going to guess the strikes aren’t removed from these users’ accounts in situations like this, even after the content is restored. Anyone know for sure?

The day companies get penalized for anything...is the day we have democracy back...

I think companies need to be penalized for reporting false flags. That is the only way this kind of things are less likely to happen.

“Should anyone here present know of any reason that this couple should not be joined in holy matrimony, speak now or forever hold your peace...”

“I know one.” *One-Winged Angel starts to play*

Yep. The hate he got is pathetic (internet mob mentality usually is), but the joke was a few decades old before he ever got round to telling it to begin with.

I’ve often used Let’s Plays to figure out what the gameplay is like, before making the purchase myself. Game trailers are notoriously bad at conveying how the game actually plays out.

There are several reasons to watch other people play games.

Sometimes you just don’t want to play a game for various reasons. I am currently watching one of my favorite streamers play the new Metal Gear game, i have no interest in playing the game (unless it was 10$ or something like that) but i enjoy watching it.

They then hugged it out, and the segment ended—but not before Kimmel made a joke about how the YouTubers should maybe get out more.

Yes. It's called YouTube.
