This is in part due to Apple's consistant software upgrades. You can hardly own a device for over two years without the newest firmware bogging it down. Being they come out as often as they do, if your in the market, you might as well get the newest to prolong the life beyond a couple years.

Another thing with the design: All the titles are closer to the picture next to which they correspond to! This makes it look like that the title corresponds to the picture below the title rather than above it.
