Sam Houston, as Governor of Texas, was removed from office because he refused to recognize Texas’ secession. He was a staunch unionist, opposed the extension of slavery, and felt there were limits to states rights. Anyone who claims to give as much of a shit about Texas history as these assholes do would know that.
