I drove one for a month and that thing had terrible balance (very front-heavy, liked to lurch) and visibility. Could fit a bunch of stuff in it though. Good form factor but definitely some things to workout.
It would very likely be an EV if they decided today to bring it back.
“Visually awkward looking” is Subaru’s heritage. But by now, after a couple of generations, the looks would have been mainstreamed.
It’d be analogous to what a CUV is to a proper SUV - looks vaguely off-roadish but has middling off-road chops and functional cargo space. Someone living in the ‘burbs could bring home a couple of big potted plants in a Baja but they aren’t hauling full sheets of plywood and that’d be fine for that market segment.

But not to worry, the two examples I remember from a friend and a friend-of-a-friend had the turbos blow up so one problem took care of the other.
