I live in LA, so my perspective is skewed. LA is one giant, overgrown suburb, so you make a good point.

I live in an area of high-density housing, with no off-street parking.
My neighbour recently got a Leaf. He has a multiplex cinema pass.  Which has validated parking for the multi-storey car park.  Which has fast charging included in the parking fee.  So he charges up once a week while he watches a movie.

I think you’re think PG&E. But the city of LA will give you a couple hundred bucks to install a charger.

I considered electric when I bought my 6 a couple years ago. Wife still has a gas car, so we’d be fine for trips. For commuting <50 miles a day, as long as you’re parked at least 10 hours a night, even the 120V level 1 charger would work if you start the week on a full charge, for the most part. I went to a PHEV when I had an outlet at my designated parking spot at work. I charged at work and that charge covered most of my commute. Yea that’s the main issue preventing me from getting an EV. I don’t want to deal with the hassles of owning a house for a short term but getting a charger installed in a condo requires more hoops than I can jump through. My work only has two spots and a lot more EVs so that’s not an option either.

Both of these together dwarfs the Tesla charging network, the one thing that Tesla had an advantage over previously.

It’s not the number of chargers, it’s being able to charge while not at home in an amount of time that makes it convenient. 30 minutes is still far too long when it takes me <5 to fill up my gasoline cars.

I personally know of over 10 “drive off with no fob” incidents. The best was when the car ended up in Traverse City, 180 miles away from origin and couldn’t be started. Father drove up to TC and took away car from ditz daughter.
