It’s less lazy, more like not mature enough of a design sensibility. The problem is that they are tied down (either from higher ups or mentally stuck) to their vertical, slim taillights. And as such, they don’t know how to resolve the HUGE expanse in between. They can’t add to much angled surfaces that’ll just take up

But if it were too thin, then the eye doesn’t catch it and it’ll blend in, kinda like door gaps; they have to be tight enough not to distract from the front-to-rear character lines.

I would’ve thought it allowed for more clearance for the hood to drop-shut without damaging other areas.

Should’ve been the new RX-7 concept; even got the goofy Mazda smile.

It’s more important—beyond the business, but for the brand—for the Corolla to have a manual than for the Supra to have one.
