Neutral is fine, but this seems like a silly excuse. Have you ever in your life seen a throwout bearing need to be replaced? That’s a $50 part that will survive well over 100,000 miles even if you torture it.
I’m not sure what this comment means. Is it a statement that, because you can’t drive a standard transmission on hills, you assume nobody can?
Some cars have fuel economy readouts, which are notoriously inaccurate. They’ll report, for example, 99mpg (the maximum it can display) when going downhill, if you put it in neutral — even though that’s usually illegal, dangerous, and doesn’t actually get 99mpg.
