I don’t think he is desperately trying to bounce back from that interview. At least from the standpoint of other musicians (Clapton, Bob Weir and many others) he is on track to legend status. It seems to be what matters to the guy the most at this point.   

The wonderland crap paid for him to have the flexibility to play the music he wants to...i.e. Dead and Company and such. He readily admits this.
