I think the term 'gamer' was getting to the point when it wasn't synonymous with anything, no more than 'bookreader' or 'moviewatcher' signifies anything. And I am for that. But we've backslid a long ways due to gg. I understand why you wouldn't care, which is fine, and I think that actually tracks pretty closely to

OK well from what I've seen lots of gg'ers are very concerned about their depiction in the media, and also from what I've seen lots of gamers like myself are concerned about how gg is depicted in the media because it reflects badly on us. But if you don't believe that to be the case, that's fine by me.

I was replying about your statement "Also "people" are not genuinely disgusted that the term gamer has gotten "mixed up" (it hasn't) with a bunch of ravenous threatening misogynists (how many is that, exactly). Some people have. The same people who are looking for an excuse to be upset, to faint on their couches and

You know, I've noticed that anti-gg'ers often get sucked into the endless debate on whether gg is really about ethics in video game journalism vs anti-feminism (although come on, everyone knows that the anti-feminists are using the ethics issue as a witch hunt to silence pro-feminist voices). But I think it may be

My parents asked me if I'm going to let my daughter play video games when she's old enough because of all the murderers and rapist gamers on the news. So yeah, gamergate has made me defend my hobby to my parents, something that I haven't had to do in about 25 years. So... thanks gg.

While I don't necessarily agree with you, I do believe that your thoughts are shared by a large portion of gamergate which goes to my point with visualdeity that gg is not just about ethics in video games

i think your definition of gamergate is too narrow. I think you need to recognize the strong anti-feminist, anti-sjw current running through gg. I'm not saying it's good or bad, and I'm not saying that it's the same as misogyny or even sexist, but I am saying that it is a very real, very large part of gg.

i've read these comments for months now and every time there is a gg article, there's badassnoor claiming "as a strong feminist" immediately followed by something anti-feminist. Well, as a strong supporter of badassnoor, I have to say that I have never agreed with anything that person says.

I think you got him there. Also his 20 million comments on the topic also sort of suggest that he cares more than he's willing to admit.

"you can't expect to change everyone so your daughter don't asks stupid questions."

sounds like it was less about blizzard being pressured by game journalists and more blizzard developers interacting with actual females... Like his daughter...

Its true that there haven't been any reports of major harrassment/doxxing since Felicia Day. I think it's because that event really brought gg into the spotlight of the mainstream media. Since them, the doxxers have been lying low because, well, even wifebeaters know not to hit their wives when their neighbors are

but you can make educated guesses.

When Slate interviewed Niger Innis, executive director theteaparty.net and asked himabout the comparisons between Gamergate and the Tea Party some people have made regarding their reactionary ideologies, he responded that the comparison was absurd and that the Tea Party is offended by attacks on women.

I've never heard of the guy in your link but I've seen multiple pics of the screen above literally hours after her post, so I'm going to say the original

what exactly would you consider association with gg? It's not like there are card carrying members. But you can infer associations based on actions used to accomplish similar goals. If two people are mugging you, one guy holds a gun, the other demands your money, you can infer they are associated due to their mutual

felicia days doxxer signed his post gaimerg8

not exactly the same. It would be similar if isis only attacked people who criticize Islam. But Isis is actually at war with other Muslims. Gg and the harassers seem to have the same goals, so that's the association.

the harassment occurred when women criticized gg. Brianna made a meme. Felicia wrote an article. So it's not a spurious association.

Are your saying kotaku did that?
