I think it's a little harsh to say their console efforts are 'terrible'. There is a reason why generations of players fell in love with Sega franchises like Sonic, Streets of Rage, etc. They were fun games and at the time you could only get them on a Sega console.

I think I remember reading about that. Also, if I remember correctly, SoA and SoJ actually worked on two separate designs for the Saturn competing with each other which was a huge waste of money. Such a waste of a great company to soothe egos.

And wasn't it SoA's CEO at the time that suggested they pack in Sonic with the console? Despite SoJ's temper tantrum at the idea, it was a great way to get tons of consoles into kids homes that year.
