Most motherboards that have dropped parallel ATA (remember the 40- and 80-wire cables, with spots for two hard drives/CD-ROMs?) have also dropped DB25 parallel ports and DB9 serial COM ports (and the headers for them). You can still find the USB-to-parallel and USB-to-serial adapters if you need them.
While the Atari and Sega Genesis (and Amiga mouse ports!) were DB9, they’re not technically serial ports.

Just give up and admit, since Bluetooth 5 has been ratified, is available on at least one device (the Galaxy S8, which, IIRC, is selling well), and is coming to new products, that 4.2 is NO LONGER the newest version. It’s as simple as that. (Who’s the idiot now, idiot?)
