I read "consummate" as "consumerate" which strikes me as apt, because our society consumes PoC with the same carelessness and lack of thought that we give to a bag of chips. The acquittal of murderous police is just society throwing away the empty bag.

I felt this episode removed some of the comic book fantasy aspects of the series as a whole. It placed Gilead in the real world, where other countries are outside looking in, much more than the "trade delegation" story from the prior episode did. This one made Gilead seem real and not metaphorical.
