Don’t bother looking for approval, that’s your first mistake; especially when dealing with some of the more extreme groups in person, or on the Internet. thank you for explaining exactly how I feel. I used to want to participate in the conversation and over the last few years have grown quieter and quieter about the subject not because I don’t care, am not paying attention, or don’t want to help - but because every option is apparently wrong.

I feel like i spend about half the time being told I need to participate in the conversation, and about half the time being told “shut up and listen//you’re whitesplaining every time you talk//check your privilege//you can’t talk about this because you’ve never experienced//etc//etc//etc”
