I have some surgical masks so I’ll be wearing one of those.. Still a papery fabric, but also a more snug fit. I had planned to bring them anyways in case the air quality in Sydney was too bad from smoke anyways. 

I’m headed to Australia/New Zealand in a few weeks. I plan on wearing a facemask and wiping my area of the plane down with wet wipes before the 17 hour flight.  In 2009 I flew to Morocco in the height of the Swine Flu hype, and remember having to get body scanned and such on the tarmac at the Fez Airport. People can’t handle complicated faucets.. I can assure you. My kitchen faucet is mildly complex (has handles) and no joke every friend/family member who comes over gets super frustrated over it, can’t figure it out, and ultimately asks for help.
