As soon as my lips chap, I increase my vitamin E — regularly 400 IU per day, but in winter, to prevent dryness, I alternate with 400 one day and 800 the next. Seems to knock it right out. I also use Burt's Bees lip balm when they are really dry.

Strangely, the drier your skin is, the oilier it gets. I was "hooked" on astringents for a long time until a makeup artist explained. Better moisturizer, less oil. For the hair, you can wash with just conditioner to prevent drying. The conditioner bonds with the hair and "lifts" the oil and dirt away from the scalp…
