That’s the purpose of the water in the tank, the reason there is standing water after you flush is to keep the smell where it belongs. Of course it also helps to have water there in the first place otherwise that thing might glue itself to the side of the bowl. 

The entire purpose of the water in your toilet in the first place is to block the smell of the sewer pipe from backing up into your house and stinking up your existence. It’s safe to assume a partially submerged turd is less potent than a fully exposed one.

FWIW I as a man don’t play adult league sports either for this same reason, overly aggressive bros. MY first car was a 1981 Plymouth Horizon I purchased for $400 in 1996. In the winter the automatic transmission wouldn’t shift out of first gear unless the engine was fully warmed up. It would rev to about the point it should shift to second, but would keep revving up until it was about to blow.
