Is it under warranty? Bring it by the Apple store, if you get the right employee they might replace the screen for you. Did exactly that with my old iPhone 3G when it was under warranty. They took it in back for like 5 minutes and came out with new screen.

It's not that hard to blow the limit these days. I use Spotify on my phone during work. I can easily blow through 700mb a week streaming music alone. We don't have wifi and we're not allowed to stream music on the work network anyways.
