The film had a lot of good ideas, but it is absurd that they couldn't coexist with those crucial elements of the original cartoon that moved its story and were integral to its identity.

I think this dude is really underselling the accessibility that Lennon was very deliberately implementing in Imagine.  Yeah, it's simple, sappy in places, but "[imagining] there's no Heaven" is a very foreign concept to a lot of religious people, and a world without countries seems like a thing that will never happen…
