Women students still have implicit bias. So yes, it’s still a problem.

I’ve taught at public and private schools. Pembroke is clearly private (and maybe rather small?) Some private unis/colleges, especially SLACS, pride themselves on not hiring adjuncts, only FT teachers.

I think that joke could have been sharpened up a bit so that it was actually funny. Knowing and saying Deborah Birx’s name would have made it more potent (she... does objectively suck for not pushing back on COVID). And she’s the one that got stuck standing there, not Redfield or Fauci, and I totally think that might

He was like Keegan Michael Key’s Angry Obama, kinda!

I was raised in LA and I wish talking to strangers was an “LA” thing the way maybe the show makes it seem like it is? But my mom is Costa Rican and I grew up with any opportunity to talk to strangers taken. It might actually be the subconscious reason I love this show so much. Thanks for the podcast suggestion!

He is her boss. If your boss doesnt like your set, especially because it was about them, you are done.

It was like 30 seconds of silence right aftet the band finished the set. Only a ham sees that as unacceptable.

She went in that direction because she was unprepared. If you brag to your ex’s new girlfriend that you’re “playing the Apollo”... But you don’t even know what that means, and then at the last minute you realize you didn’t research the crowd for the biggest show of your life (Even tho supposedly you learned that

I loved it (I have a PhD in chemistry, and I also loved Zodiac).

Looks like the movie is pretty accurate:

I hated it too!

Goonies is a great counterexample! Actually written in the 80s, by dudes... and yet it’s still better than this in terms of the female characters, I think. Thanks for pointing it out. For that matter, the writing for the female characters in the 1st and 2nd season of this show could be compared to this current season,

I had one without being under/meds. It was fine! Took longer than a pap smear, but less scary than giving blood (sorry red cross)

But if that were the point (“someone from the literal underbelly of society being able to successfully integrate into middle class society after being removed from that environment,”) why would she have remorse?Who has remorse for getting out?

The comment itself was tone-deaf and suggests she didn’t do “homework” to be on Drag Race... however, Plastique has said the first 3-4 years in the US she was focused on learning English. So even if she had the desire, maybe checking English books out of the library and watching English videos is not going to be as

People are making a big deal about this but she didn’t do any *less* with Mariah than everyone else. It would be different if she dragged the team down but she didn’t. Ten years ago, Mariah’s current albums were “E = MC2" and “Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel” —- I wasn’t 11 then but I definitely know zero songs from

I was just thinking she comes from a very religious or conservative family... that she didn’t go into it but later in the season it will come up again?

Well that and the fact that there were two really successful films with majority black casts in 2018. They picked those to spoof deliberately, so it really could have been awkward even without her choices.

you will be really into the sean astin cameo, then!

Smith and Mapplethorpe were very good friends. Her book “Just Kids” is about their relationship and it’s really good!
