It could also just randomly turn into one of the Pokemon in your Dex, that would make more sense to me as a mechanic for ditto
If it was going to be a regional Pokemon it would make sense, dittos in the games are one of the few Pokemon that can’t breed (themselves)so not coming from eggs seems normal
