Southbound on I-77 in NC. An accident had closed both lanes. After seeing several cars drive down the shoulder to an exit roughly a half mile distant, I did the same to take a detour.

Lol. A coworker of mine, Gina, used to take her elderly mother grocery shopping on Senior Days. She said she didn’t know what was worse, waiting through the checkout line as you describe, or navigating the cookie aisle that was invariably jammed with “fat people on Jazzys” (the scooters).

I’ve always suspected that the Mustang II and “New Coke” were thought up by the same person.

My first car was a ‘61 Ford. No power steering, drums with no power assist on all four corners, choke knob on the dash. I bet the driving experience wouldn’t be all that much different.
