Heh. The Steve Earle Galway Girl was the one thing that caused an argument when my wife and i were planning our wedding. It’s played to death here and I hate it, so i refused to have it on the set list or playlist. My wife has much better, cooler taste in music than me but she argued that everyone seems to love it and

His Grandad was Irish, not his Dad. And as an actual Irish person, it sounds to me like the worst plastic paddy shite imaginable.

I was fine with him until the faux Irish bullshit. To be fair, some of it is production. Castle on a Hill isn’t that bad in the stripped down live versions but the single is overproduced gack. But Galway Girl is a crime against humanity for several reasons.

Yeah, I must say I was surprised by the article because I thought it’d be about Gruenwald. Always a bit of an unsung hero (because he was primarily an editor) its lovely to see two Marvel shows back to back so heavily indebted to him (TVA, Timekeepers, Mobius, John Walker, US Agent, etc).

Agreed. That psychiatrist issue of X Factor belongs in any list of best Marvel comics.

We don’t need to get into anecdotal evidence. We know roughly 2 million households paid $30 to watch at home, and roughly 16 million people paid about $10  to see it at the cinema (8 domestic, 8 worldwide). A lot people love the cinema.

The extended cut is pretty great. It adds loads of great jokes and character moments and gives breathing room to some important moments. Plus it really puts you in William’s shoes as you feel like “This is awesome but it’s kinda going on far too long”.

I can’t say I agree. My mate has a 100 inch 4k screen and a kickass surround system, but it still doesn’t compare to the cinema for me. I’ve got a 49 inch TV and decent soundbar, which is closer to the average setup. The average cinema screen is 50-60 foot. It just feels totally different.

Worth noting that from Disney POV, $60m at home is pretty much the equivalent of $120m box office, since they only get about half of cinema gross. On Disney+ they have almost no overheads, and there's the bonus of people requiring a subscription to pay to rent it.

I’m not an Austen head myself but judging by a bunch of my friends with lit degrees and a love of Real Housewives and Below Decks, yup.

It’s a soap opera because that’s how you tell the stories of the most powerful families on the planet. An honest look at the Murdochs or Trumps is going to be a big soapy family mess. But what the show does well is explain how those dumb, petty, childish rivalries affect us all. The show touches on how peoples jobs,

You’re right, its not proof, but it does support the theory. WandaVision had two Young Avengers characters in it, Falcon had one and now Loki has one. We know there’s a Ms Marvel show on the way and Hawkeye’s show has Kate Bishop. And Ant Man has already introduced Cassie. So most of the Young Avengers have been

She only made 4 movies, all of which were covered in a recent Blank Check podcast miniseries which was very interesting.

The dude sexually assaulted his trans niece, physically attacked a child actor and much more. Not casting an appropriately old actress for a role is pretty low down on that scumbag’s list of sins.

Golden Arm is fun if you fancy a sub 30 minute Raimi horror comedy.

The magic of good writing is sometimes leaving things up to the audience imagination. Lucas was a master, be it the Clone Wars mention in A New Hope or Marion's age. That said, for fun, here’s the writers room transcript.

Obligatory reminder that Golden Arm is a really fun way to spend half an hour. It’s Sam Raimi doing horror comedy for the first time in 12 years.

Unwarranted slam on American Aminals, which is a great movie. Tense, funny and original. The AVClub original review underrated it. I only caught it in lockdown but was shocked by how good it is.

Blindboy rules. It’s kinda depressing that a white comedy rapper with a plastic bag on his head is one of the sharpest political commentators and champions of mental health in Ireland (and frankly the whole British Isles)

Yeah for me OUATIH fails on a basic story level. For 90% of the movie, there’s no tension. No intention and obstacle. No drama. My least favourite of his movies and the only one I was bored by. I wish I saw the movie so many critics and my friends seemed to.
