Why not just ignore the ones you don't like? Movies and TV shows often get follow ups that suck but I'm not letting Crystal Skull or A Good Day to Die Hard stop me enjoying some of my favourite films.

I think the story fundamentals are sound. You need to be careful with subtext, but the tragedy of a guy having to kill the woman he loves to save the world has tons of potential. It’s got that Titanic, Romeo and Juliet vibe. But the films don’t have mid 90s Dicaprio. They’ve hugely underdeveloped both versions of

I think they should place it in the “real world”. They’ve done the mansion/military base/anonymous suburban house aesthetic to death. Let’s see city streets, shops, apartments and most importantly people. The x-men films always seem to feel oddly empty and underpopulated. I want some of that Grant Morrison vibe of

The show has always been about how assholish and borderline psychotic people in Silicon Valley are, behind the fig leaf of hippy ideals. And how even well meaning people like Richard who do want to make the world a better place, are corrupted by the system. If anything, they were well ahead of the general public.

Nah, confusingly despite the title Assistant Directors are sort of lower level producers. They’re basically logistical, non creative roles.

I think you’re kinda making my point. Calling Spielberg or DePalma clumsy or “ham fisted semi competent” directors is nonsense. It implies they don’t know what they’re doing, when they clearly do. You might not like the tonal shifts or style but that’s not the implication of your complaints.

I had no issues with the acting in Chronicle, Cloverfield or Blair Witch but your mileage may vary.

I get not liking the tone or style of DePalma movies but the man is an incredibly technically gifted director. He swings for the fences and has made a lot of shit, but the guys got serious craft.

I’m pretty sure every shot in Peep Show is POV. I could be wrong but I’m reasonably sure every shot follows the rules through to the end.

What do you mean Peep Show scuttled the POV thing? They kept that in every episode right through to the end

When so many of my favourite musicians were trafficking 13 and 14 year olds across the country for sex (Zeppelin, Stones and Bowie), I find it hard to get too angry at Moby.

Isn’t this true on most sets? In my experience half the battle is getting all the actors into the zones they need. Some need lots of blocking to experiment, some like to find it fresh on camera. Some want loads of direction between takes, some want the fewest words possible to stay in the zone. Some want loads of

This seems to be reaching a bit. I’ve not seen his new one, but Tarantino has a much better track record of strong female characters than other crime centric directors like Mann, Scorcese or Fincher. Even non crime directors like Spielberg have very few female leads, where Tarantino has Death Proof, Kill Bill, Jackie

General broad rule of thumb is the company get half the box office and the real cost is budget plus 50% for marketing. But then there are TV/streaming/download etc, so films don’t have to break even at the box office alone. Add in the merchandise money Disney make and even a movie that doesn’t seem very profitable on

In a movie he’s starring in, sure. In a massive ensemble, everyone is defined by their simplest clearest way of interacting.

Well yeah, but the nature of something like Infinity War is to reduce everyone to their barest essentials as they'll only have 20 lines in the film. And at his core, Starlord is a buffoon.

Loads of people say that, but who are these mythical non nerdy TV writers? I’ve worked on soaps and everyone in the writers room was a nerd. Being a TV writer is a lot of work and only nerds tend to put the effort in.

I think he’ll take the low effort gigs like a cameo or voice work. I think the problem is that Aykroyd’s ideas all involved him being at least Co lead and he can’t be arsed.

Quill is a walking punchline in the GOTG movies too. It's just that without other heroes about he has more to do. But the man is a moron and a tool with a very high opinion of himself, that's what makes him so much fun.

Danny had a vengeful streak in the past, but it was motivated. She had goals and objectives. The problem isn’t her killing innocent civilians, it’s that there was no need. The city had surrendered, most of its army gone. There was no ticking clock or big threat “we need to get her before she uses wildfire” or “we need
