Yes, unfortunately it is a choice that is easier for some than others. For sure there is research and experience that tells us that some people struggle making that choice. Those suffering from severe depression is one such example.

A lot of the places that have not been what I expected—but in a good way—were the ones where I didn’t know what to expect. I came back from the trip starry-eyed at how wonderful it all was, but part of that reaction came simply from my own dunce-ness about what the area offered.

Iceland was a fantastic surprise! I went a couple of years ago with my sister, and we had a wonderful time. It was easy to get there, cheaper than rumored, jam-packed with natural beauty, the hot-springs and pools were great fun, and the people were incredibly nice ... I can’t wait to go back again.

There are places along the Great Wall that are packed with tourists. There are other places, more beautiful places, ironically, that don’t see many visitors at all. It takes more planning that you would think...

Don’t disagree at all. :) I remember carrying around planners like this back in the day before smartphones and tablets became a thing just because it was the only way to stay organized if you were busy enough to keep a calendar on you at all times.
