Apparently kids are easily impressed now days....
oh yes, yummy man thighs...
He’s totally a plant AND he’s totally a character who is shown to be quickly down-graded in status to that of a cootie carrying female by showing any empathy or insight into women.
Just finished the film and had an epiphany about something I never consciously realized before. Harvey Keitel is, of course, very clearly the model man throughout the film, but I never really recognized how he is progressively more and more denigrated and ‘feminized’ by the other male characters as the film goes on.…
“Thelma & Louise’s everyday foxiness really disturbed men because you could imagine the good ol’ gal next door doing these things— heaven forfend!
I think we’re generally on the same page here. That film just so resonated with me at the time as I completely responded to just never being fucking taken seriously. Pretty much everyone in the movie either condescends to them or tries to take advantage of them. And even the ‘good’ characters can only imagine Louise…
And, dang, dat torso! <3
I read that Geena Davis campaigned heavily for the Bradster. And all I could think of when I heard that was “the woman has good taste”.
I didn’t actually take their deaths as punishment, more an acknowledgement of despair. The scene where they blow up the truck (and the murder) were both most meaningful to me as they showed the complete lack of respect women garner. Even if I point a gun at you, you still have such a total sense of my lack of power…
Plus: if they did not die at the end, a film about those two uppity bitches would never have been made. Patriarchy. Demands. Concessions.
The dying thing never really bothered or confused me. I just meant that I didn’t “get” the anger on a personal level yet because I was still just a kid. I knew going into it that it was not going to be a Nancy Drew-esque buddy flick.
One part that resonated super strong with me even then was when they are discussing…
You really found it shocking that men who violate a woman’s physical space could also be rich and famous?
RIGHT?
It's so weird when they don't believe you the first time. Like I'm a human being capable of expressing what I want. Same as you buddy. When we don't want the same thing, it's time for you to move along,
Wow, sounds like the same guy I’ve encountered. Yes, please mansplain to me how I should bask in the glow of any attention given to me by a man, whether unwanted or not. Then dick has the nerve to call me a fat bitch when I don’t graciously accept his offer of a drink after my friends and I try to ignore his rant. Get…
“Unsurprisingly, powerful, rich actors have especially poor boundaries when it comes to women’s bodies.”
I fixed your first line for you.
Seriously. And even when they ask ...
I had a dude ask if he could touch me at a bar. I said, in no uncertain terms, “No.” He asked again, and I said No. He tried to touch me and I grabbed his wrist and stabbed him with my thumbnail. He was then thrown out of the bar.
Even when the ask, they’re not really asking.
Last time I went to a club this guy lectured my friends and I because apparently he’d been watching us all night and every time rando dudes came up behind us, we “ran away”. Sorry I’m shifting away from gropers. During his speech, another guy came up, put his arm around me tightly and asked if I wanted a beer. If he…
