Wasn’t there a similar shot on Game of Thrones with Daenerys and her dragon?

I don’t comment here any more, but if I did I would entirely agree with this assessment. Shut Up And Dance is absolutely fucking amazing. It is absolutely not misery for the lolz, and it’s this level of criticism that’s the primary reason I’m not here any more.
Shut Up and Dance was fucking excellent. Nothing more to add.
I don’t understand the hate for “Shut up and Dance” and the meh-ness for “White Bear.” To me, these are the best because they ask you to spend an entire episode sympathizing for these people who are going through something grueling. They’re being tortured but an unseen force while you get more and more invested in…
I’ve never felt both horrified and titilated at the same time.
Margo is the best character. No way around it.
Yeah, before the Kinjapocalypse, I really liked the vast majority of the shows this site reviewed. Now? Not so much.
I bet you have plenty of thoughts on reverse racism too
I was a bit confused by it, to be honest. First, I didn’t like the way either Roland or Purple were willing to just beat people up when they got frustrated. His unprovoked bar brawl seemed really out of place, and then the dog scene--while being pretty farfetched--ended up having the effect of causing him to leave…
I felt like the reference in this review was there just to throw in a buzzword. And that it was used in a blanket way. “Oh look, there are two men having a tense confrontation. It must be toxic masculinity!” Were they expected to hug? I don’t see that being men with destructive notions of masculinity led Hoyt and Hays…
I wouldn’t say Ahlanuh is Wakanda. More like Birnin Zana. Wakanda may be a technological and cultural pioneer, but it’s also notorious for simultaneously not giving a shyt about the lower-class in the regions not brimming with said-futurism among other injustices in some cases- which actually helped to precipitate a…
I mean....yea....since the movie was shot there.
Well put. This is why Emily writes for what’s left of the AVClub while Nic Pizzolatto makes a hit TV show.
I’m still sitting here blown away that the reviewer experienced this scene as racial catharsis rather than the route of the guilt and turmoil Hays has been haunted by all these decades (well, on top of Vietnam). If anything, there was some satisfaction that the guy who seems to have murdered Tom Purcell got what was…
Well put. This article goes into the annals of Misbegotten AV Club Reviews alongside Sonya Saraiya’s ‘WKRP In Cincinnati needed to do more social commentary’ and David Sims’ ‘30 Rock spends too much time telling jokes’.
But his death is his own doing, a choice they were forced to make, not a natural consequence of their violence.
That isn’t ambiguity. It isn’t poetic. It’s narrative cowardice.
Glad I kept my mouth shut about this for weeks.
As I assume was the case for many of us, college is where I read most of the books that had a lasting impact on my life, especially those of a revolutionary nature.
Fanon’s “Black Skin, White Masks” is another great read.
Shut up nerd
