I honestly never thought I’d see the day where just claiming to be an expert AND being a bigot was all it took for a sweet gig in the White House. I thought you had to at least have a smidgen of book learnin’ behind you.

You make a good point but...

Two things - propaganda (Fox News, think tanks, Koch-funded “astroturfing” campaigns) and voter restriction (gerrymandering, voter registration scrubs, allowing key features of the voting rights act to expire, and instilling voter ID laws at the same time limiting polling places/times).

We had 500 in Bismarck ND. That may sound small, but it’s huge compared to anything else I’ve ever seen here. Tons of people honked and waved at us too. I expected two dozen when I first sign up.

I was at a similarly small event. I don’t think those are being counted in the overall numbers, but they’re no less important; if we’re participating in local actions and politics, local networking and conversations about our local priorities are even more vital than standing in a mass movement.

The abortion rate is currently at its lowest point since Roe v Wade passed. Because we had Planned Parenthood and access for free birth control.

As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I’m Texan. When Rick Perry (of all people) is the one congressional hearing that isn’t giving you nightmares, then yep, we’re all still pretty fucked.

So just to be clear:

I would love nothing more than to ask Paul Ryan how he can claim to be a Christian but love the philosophy of Ayn Rand. That’s like being a vegan who hunts.

You are considering Christianity as a moral philosophy, but for tribal-minded people, it functions more like a primary in-group. They don’t give a flying fuck what Jesus would do, they merely use the idea of him as a psychological tool to justify hatred of Strangers or Others.

The problem with the creatures who are gathering around Donald isn’t their wealth per se, although it’s true that income inequality in this country has long since surpassed mere colossal obscenity and now approaches cosmic, gob-smacking, twilight-of-the-gods levels of obscenity.

I really think “drain the swamp” had less to do with removing the ultra wealthy and lobbyists from positions of influence and more to do with punishing the educated “librul” career civil servants.
