Did anyone here stop to think that the reaction to this guy’s letter is really strong evidence that ideological diversity is lacking at Google? It like the author set a trap and all progressives are fighting each other to jump into it.

“They are not even trying to hide their racism. They used the word ‘race’ 8 times in the document.”
The girl never used the word ‘rape’ - you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think that’s a HUGE deal from a legal perspective.
Since you’re a burly lawyer, you obviously fully understand that everyone is entitled to a zealous defense, and our legal system fails utterly when the adversarial system fails.
I should have clarified, I’m looking at it from the Title iX perspective b/c it appears there haven’t been legal charges yet. Rice’s lawyers are going to be preoccupied with the school case for now. If he gets criminally charged later, that’s obviously a bigger deal.
I will preface this by saying that whenever someone tries to explain the ‘other’ side of this argument, they get blasted to hell or deleted outright, but here goes. And again, I am not moralizing, I am trying to answer a legitimate question:
Bassguitarhero’s motivation is plain as day - reread what he wrote (I’m assuming he’s a he, but it changes nothing otherwise):
This is simply dumb, BUT I like the way you numbered the list. I can do this too:
They live on a rez. Sooo, they are less native b/c they have internet? It sounds like you’re saying access to the outside world (and possibly being more educated and/or wealthy) makes you less native, but you can’t mean that (I’m not being sarcastic or snarking - I mean that). If you’re going to say that 10% is not…
But why am I here. I love kinja b/c I got into a REAL argument with a communist lesbian a few months back - I LOVE that.
I couldn’t agree more. I’m left without a party. I’m a democrat, but I could never call myself a progressive. But the tea party is just as repugnant.
Go tell this guy that he’s benefitted from white privilege, you piece of shit. You really think he wakes up in the morning and says, “well, I’m barely surviving. But I’m white so good things are bound to come.” This is America. And you are an elitist asshole.
You have a great point. BUT 99% of progressive politics is essentially white liberals telling minorities how to think.
“Tribe affiliation was not a requirement” —> so your point relies on throwing away genetic native americans who don’t live up to your standard of ‘native american-ness’? See a problem there?
You must be new here. You have to learn that there is acceptable racism and unacceptable racism. Kinja has its own flavor - white people cannot be the victim of racism here. In fact, to say that racism against any white people anywhere even could hypothetically exist gets you called lots of bad names. Additionally,…
I googled Rand Getlin and this image came up:
I got one deleted and my point was that this case and result make a lot more sense when looking at the totality of the evidence. En pari delicto is a legal standard for a reason.
We will have to agree to disagree on points 2 & 3. However, you’d have to agree that from the first second the Kaep story hit the news cycle, both the owners and the League have be completely supportive. This is directly verifiable in both traditional media reports and on social media. I know the tweets you are…
You are completely right, and this is great commentary. ‘Communication’ is the process of convincing people who don’t already agree with you - NONE of that happens here.
You’re mixing a few different things here.
