I think cheerleading is weird. At the college I can see it only because those are athletes on scholarship, they could drop them from the sidelines and I wouldn’t care. There is no reason to have cheerleaders in pro sports.

1) It offends a large group of the population, a group that F1 is trying to make fans. If many, many women are offended by it or at the least roll their eyes and say ‘really?’ whenever grid girls are on TV and they would think better of it, then it is the right business decision.

It honestly has never offended me, personally. It offended my wife, it offended a lot of women that I know and respect. I think that is enough for me to step back and say ‘hey, maybe this isn’t worth it if it bothers so many others that I like and respect.’

I really hope Honda sticks around long enough to get the last laugh but I just can’t see it happening, they’ve been behind the eight ball for three years now so I can’t see them catching up until the regs change. By then they’ll be in such a deep pit of bad PR and financial cost they’ll just leave I imagine.

I like it, I see why others don’t but I definitely think that it should be reserved for their sporty niche models and do a more boring one for the bread and butter cars.
