I like that kind of filmmaking, personally, where a director deliberately does something that'll agitate the viewer like that shot does. Scorsese does that from time to time, where he'll hold shots for just a few beats too long. And, in an age where there are more shots on average than ever in a given film, something

That Uber ride at the end was some Manchester by the Sea business. Just lingering on the anxious loneliness with an unbroken moment that feels a person so empty and incomplete, only for one message to be worth the wait.

Much like former murderer Larry Henderson, NBC really killed it this last season with sitcoms. Trial & Error, The Good Place, and Great News have all been amazing. I've heard nothing but good thing about Superstore. So, hopefully they can keep up their momentum.

The Joe Piscopo of her time, even though the real Joe Piscopo is still alive.

Right?? Listening to Tim to Pleased to Meet Me is so disheartening. His presence is so felt, both in terms of songwriting, as well as the intensity he could bring to a track.

"Only in Dreams" is up there, but almost nothing is quite as epic as My Morning Jacket's "Lay Low" from Z.

Olyphant is unquestionably better than Diesel. The "Reckoning" episode of Justified is as good of a showcase as any actor could want. THAT SAID, Olyphant and Walker would have been too samey. Not to mention that Olyphant never feels stoic the way Diesel does. He's also way too smart.

Looks heightened, which is disappointing, because the books is so bonkers already. We'll see what happens. A lot of great talent is involved. And trailers for smaller dramas like this almost always lean too hard into the rougher thematic pieces. So, who knows?

HEY!!! AV CLUB COMMENTERS WATCH MOVIES, TOO!!!

I would be over the moon if Penelope Spheeris got to direct this.

Nope. Also, most of the country's young people look nothing like this. Master of None, which might be my favorite show on the air right now, has a really narrow scope of east coast youth.

App dating is really overrated. It works for a lot of people, but I don't know. Personally, all the best people I've met were people wasn't actively seeking out in the first place. In fact, Ansari's Modern Romance bears this out in a big way—though, it's not really taking an anti-online dating stance.

Real Eleanor deserves her own show. She has a really charming, warm presence. Even at her most unlikable, you hold out hope for her.

How many thinkpieces will we get with the title "Black Hole Son: The Blah Blah Blah of Chris Cornell"?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was confused by that.

Citizen Crane?

I just keep my preferences and partners under wraps. Never bring anyone, and I don't really bring it up. And conversations about "the gays" and whatnot almost never come up. Just make it as much of a non-factor as possible. I can put it all away for a few hours every few months or so.

Eh. At least they broke away from multicam nonsense. This could be all right. I'd watch it.

Well, two out of three of them certainly were. 1 & 3, as everyone knows.

I appreciate that. I think I see where you're coming from, and I agree that there should be a limit where Dev should set his degree of compromise. I'd certainly rather they devote more time to that than certain other episodes in the season might on lesser arcs, but that's neither here nor there.
