@akacrash: Actually what they're stereotyping is published comic book writers from the 40s until now, and even then they put in a qualifier of "almost always". And, in re-reading it, they don't actually assign a gender to those "sheltered nerds", though i'm sure its pretty safe to assume most of them were men. You

@PlaidNinja: So you're not a big fan of Indian Jones then?

@laylowmoe: I think you have hit this one on the head. I love seeing, in the various different threads here, how everyone tip-toes around this concept. Seeming unwilling to grasp the concept that it's not just modern sexism, but the sexism inherent in her creation, marketing, and continued story lines, as well as

Maybe i'm out of line here, but i'd really appreciate it if they'd cast an unknown (but talented) actor for Roland. Viggo and Mr. Bardem are both great actors but they're too recognizable in other roles. I mean, Roland is a direct descendant of Aragorn, in a literary sense, so is it really wise to have the same

MTG and technology? That's why my favorite (though it was never very well balanced) was Netrunner. All the fun of Magic, but with a pretty heavy cyberpunk theme. Good times.

Thank you for the link to the Neil Gaiman post. I've never read that and it is lovely.

I'm of two minds about this. When I can think of it as a totally new show, and not run a parallel comparison to the original, I really like it a lot. It has all the problems that American TV frequently does (too much exposition, lack of subtlety, generally assuming the audience is stupid) but still has more edge

@kalaeth: Henry VIII. And not exactly protestants, more like Anglo-Catholics. It was mostly about breaking the power of Rome over England then about worshiping god differently.

@hurlesk: I think you could make a pretty decent argument for Caligula being Chaotic Evil.

@Sunwind: Be warned, its not long after that that the series goes pretty down hill. It started off great but REALLY doesn't stay there.

@glucious: Great answer. I know its common to use "evolution chose" as short hand in these blogs, but it's a really scary way of thinking if you take it too literally. Evolution doesn't choose anything, and perfect optimization doesn't happen. This isn't intelligent design, its random chance adding up, over time,

@Im_your_Huckleberry: Right there with you, though mines on the wall in my closet. Also, your icon, and name, are awesome. "And i got a gun for each of ya!" Love that movie.

@Palmerlime: I'm just happy that the WABAC (wayback) machine is going to be relevant again. It'll be nice to have people know what the hell i mean when i shout "To the wayback machine!"

@susie-bird: That's the first i've heard of it and i'm a pretty rabid fan. I'm pretty sure its just season six with a mid-season cliff hanger and hiatus, like we do in the states. But hey, i could be wrong.

@rudecherub: THIS! If you want to change up Supes this is so the way to do it. Quit re-hasing the origin story, quit trying to CHANGE the origin story (i'm looking at you Abrams) and just tell the next part. Brilliant idea.

He's from L.A. and wants a photo, he must be trying to scam impressionable young... writers? I think he might be a bit confused.

@Rufus Honker IV: I think the reasoning is that you need the space to already be well mapped for hyperdrive to work (so you don't go bouncing through a star) and they haven't explored that region well enough for that mapping to have happened. Why they don't just use telescopes i have no idea.

What, no mention of Wolf 359?

Hudson Hawk is an awesome movie. Even if only me, my mom, and two other people think so. Your invocation of it here has actually made me interested in this movie.
