Who do the Kansas City Chiefs think they are? Asking Native Americans for advice on Native American culture. Asking them for advice on what they deem as inapropriate and asking them what images and practices are offensive to Native American tribes. Don't they know that white men have the god given right to tell them

exactly. Instead of yelling at each other about names/sides on the internet this was an opportunity to do something. Huge respect that they turned down the donation.

I did as soon as I saw a buddy of mine who's part of the skate park committee post this on Facebook. Already had huge respect for what these guys are doing for the future of their tribe, and regardless of your stance on the name, having the values and ethics to be able to turn down a donation that size says volumes

oh god REI.

My point was more to make fun of skateboarders while pointing out that Snyder's money could be better used on a different project, say, rebranding his team with a new name and mascot...

sorry, the correct talking point is "I have lots of Indian friends who let me call them that, and they don't mind!"

"we know a bribe when we see it"

But...but...I thought Native Americans all LIKED the name! Or at least that's what I've been told by people talking out of their ass here.

The problem is that it's a relatively new idea that there is "honor" in having a sports team take your name. I'm not sure where that idea came from, if not from a defender of an established brand. Now, just because it's new doesn't necessarily mean there's no validity to the idea.

Ahh, so you've been called a bigot and redneck and you're upset about this, it all makes sense. A bigot is someone who dislikes someone due to their race, religion, nationality, gender, orientation, etc. What is it that bothers you about Black History Month or Gay Pride Parades? Why is their existence even a bother to

The annenbetg poll was done a decade ago, and the poll I posted was done recently. Your lack of the concept of time is stunning.

Dude, I'm a white guy from the south, I more than get the point about people not wanting to accept or be told that things they hold dear as part of their personal or familial history are tainted by bigotry. But that want doesn't make it so—no matter how deeply ingrained it may be. All that want does is breed

When your views are bigoted, they don't need to be tolerated. Also, "tolerance lobby" is such a stupid term, as if there was a National Tolerance Vendors Association (NTVA) who lobby congress to increase the interests of tolerance.

Hoopsville and Snyder

The argument's already been won, my friend. The courts have already decided (for the SECOND time, and this time without a technicality to throw out the ruling) that the Redskins trademark is offensive.

In April, the U.N.'s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights issued a press releasethat "called on the owners of the Washington Redskins Football team, to consider 'the hurtful reminder that the term "redskins" represents of the long history of mistreatment of Native American people in the United States.'"

The sad thing is, it probably really isn't a money thing. The guy's just probably one of those people who when faced with the reality of having to admit he was wrong, just spends years digging himself a deeper and deeper hole because he can't bear the thought of having to lose face.

Damn straight man! I am First Nations and Native American (half and half) I say this Dan Snyder is out of touch and looking for anyone that looks Native to help justify his cause....I mean did he really have to go to MF'ing Alaska before he found someone that agrees with him?!?!?

Here in the Dakotas, a white person calling a Native America a "redskin" will likely get them beat up. I've never heard the word used by Native Americans here to refer to each other either. It's an offensive term. And "Chief" Dodson's bona fides appear suspect.

Dodson added that all the Indians he knows are fine with "redskins" even in a non-football context.
