I would say that Minecraft has a win and a lose condition in its feedback loop of life and death. The game can go on, indefinitely, but it definitely has win/loss conditions. It also has at least one overall win condition with the end dragon (and therefore an overall loss condition - however inconsequential).
There are

Okay, great. So are you actually advocating that we include software like Microsoft Paint in our definition of video games?
If so, how do you reconcile the lack of some of the core features of games (video or otherwise) - the feedback loop, win and loss conditions, etc? Are you saying that those things don't need to be

Sexual objectification is not misogyny and neither exclusive to any gender.

Well, with Gone Home it is, to a strong degree, hype backlash. Gone Home was pushed as one of the biggest games of the year, when even within its own genre, it's questionable if it deserves any more than being called "decent", mostly because given how important the story is, it's really not THAT good. It's better than

You have to understand the history behind Gone Home. When the game came out, it met with universal praise from reviewers. There isn't a single negative score on Metacritic, and only 7 average to 48 positive, with an average of 86. Actual players, on the other hand, had much more mixed feelings. Some people liked it,

It's pretty easy. When you don't like something and people run up to you screaming, "THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT YOU ARE A SEXIST HOMOPHOBE!" well...you can see how that might ruffle a few feathers. And the key thing is that if fishing and trains aren't your bag, you aren't being accused of

Umm... sorry but Gone Home ISN'T a game. I think both the people defending it and condemning it are confused. Those defending go "well I like it so it must be a game" and likewise the detractors go "this isn't fun at all, so it's not a game".

In the same way that saying something isn't a game doesn't make it not a game, saying something is a game doesn't automatically make it a game.

So, Microsoft Paint?

I don't think it's a game, really. Why does it have to be a game? How is "Not a game" actually insulting? It's interactive entertainment, it's missing the majority of qualities that typically form a game - yeah, the medium evolves and changes, but if people want to say it's not a game...who cares?

Did you read the article? How is Gamergate a haven for Sousa when Gamergate outed him? What do you think the word haven means?

I think it's worth noting that it's the first part of a longer series. I'm interested to see if he covers some of the criticisms I've made of it.

They don't seem that bright...just bandwagoning, like so many other people.

Of course, supporters of the movement weren't pleased by that description. Some of them pointed out that, hey, they were helping fight harassment by reporting people like Sousa—people who took things too far. But at the same time, even a cursory search for Sarkeesian's name on Twitter and some other Gamergate-heavy

But Sousa said he wasn't part of gamergate...and members of gamergate are denouncing him and calling him a sociopath.

It's bullying, pure and simple. But calling it a "death threat" assigns a level of alarm to it that it frankly doesn't warrant, and minimizes actual death threats.

Shit, they probably bought the shirt 10 years ago thinking, "If we pull this off, we GOTTA wear this thing in the interview after. Who's gonna give us shit? We just landed on a fucking comet!"

"Kill yourself" is an unreasonable, inexcusable, asshole thing to say, but it is not a "death threat."

Are these supposed to be examples of the death threat tweets? Because they're death threats in the same way that saying "go fuck yourself" is a rape threat.
