No, I agree, I didn't mean that it was representative of all gamers, but that a vocal minority seems to express no fear of outing themselves as real jerks is indicative that games have sort of created an imaginary bubble for these people where they think designers agree with them. I think with a bit more care in game

It's not an MRA thing. However, that doesn't mean my arguments won't line up with those of MRAs. For the record, I don't know what their arguments are, but I can understand if they coincide here. If I were to make a comparison, it would be to this "sexualized" vs. "power fantasy" trope that is always pointed out.

Exactly, that's why I think it's good she gets more media spotlight. More people will realize how flawed her arguments are and how weakly supported by the examples she gives. And with gems like these:

Nice strawman. Sarkeesian comes across more like Tipper Gore during the Parental Advisory movement, claiming that depictions in art influence real-world behavior, despite no hard evidence to back it up.

The way the series cherry picks is like quoting a statement such as "It's exhausting, but rewarding," but only quoting the "It's exhausting" part. The entire statement takes on an entirely different meaning.

Here is what I read:

There is no defending using ad hominem in an argument. Regardless of how you want to label the discussion, you are letting yourself and human intellect down by using them. Not to mention the person you are attacking.

You started it, it's your own fault for getting trapped in this debate. You must have tried to silence him by questioning his integrity, competence or intelligence. If you are not interested in talking about a subject, then there is no need to be an asshole. Then you start a debate about fallacies and for that, you

You can say whatever you want, but if you hate fallacies, you hate logic. If you hate logic you hate math. If you hate math, I hate you. >:(

Uhh... you seemed like the dick in this particular conversation with Red. You basically baited him into frustration through condescension. If you didn't want to have an argument, just say so—don't be a dick and tell him that the conversation will fail before it even starts.

Honestly, if you hate hearing about fallacies in an argument, it's probably because you need to learn to actually argue instead of pulling illogical bullshit out of your ass to make a point.
If you don't want to have the discussion, just don't have it, instead of having it anyway and getting mad when people call

I can appreciate your frustration, since internet conversations often use their own slang as well as stuff like tropes from tvtropes.com and sometimes the conversation is derailed by terms I haven't heard before because I've been hanging out on the wrong part of the intertubes.

The best way to fix "journalistic integrity" is to stop reading websites like Gawker.

something equally important for people to understand is Burden of Proof - the person who asserts a claim is the one who must provide evidence if their claim is challenged. Trying to pass the burden of proof onto a critic creates an appeal to ignorance.

Now playing

That song is about as creepy as the music in Castlevania. It's a decent song, but it's no:

You'd think Kotaku has posted enough "apocalypse/end of the world doesn't have to be brown" articles that they'd realize it's not even a thing anymore.

I'm sorry, but if the company I built with my blood, sweat and tears from the ground up just one day said "this is no longer yours, you are not important fuck off"...I'd blast the shit out of them on every outlet I could.

You apparently know nothing about Dreamhack or Robert Ohlen. He was one of the most respected figures in the industry and was the cornerstone of Dreamhack. The entire culture of Dreamhack in today's age was built by him, and he's the primary reason for it's success.

Looooove this game so far. I just got it over the weekend and about 2 hrs in. What I hope the next time around is some Enemy Territory like multiplayer :)
