Putting aside the fact that polls are rigged bullshit, the media was in lust for another war to boost ratings, thus anything critical of Bush would have been deemed unpatriotic. And many people aren’t going to shit on a President they disapprove of in that environment.

The notion that 9-11 united our country is a myth constantly perpetuated in the media. In fact it only radicalized both sides as they closed ranks in order to assign blame. If we were united it was in the most toxic way possible as we became steeped in fear of the unknown and made all the wrong knee-jerk decisions.

I was incredibly moved by this moment. I’ve never seen anything quite like it in any sport honestly. I’ve never really paid Osaka much mind but she has earned a new fan.
