Well, I think part of that may have to do with circumstance. Those communities are not only marginalized, but economically struggling and often more violent. IMO this has led to a certain level and type of masculinity (i.e. toxic) and bravado that may be required in order to survive in that environment.

No doubt his sexuality is a factor. Homophobia is rampant in the African American community like everywhere else.
